Tulsa Women’s Soccer Team Falls, 3-0, to USF
The Tulsa women’s soccer team fell to USF, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon at Corbett Stadium in Tampa, Fla. TU dropped to 3-9-2 on the season and 1-3 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Bulls moved to 7-3 overall and 3-1 in the league.
“The girl played really well today,” Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. “We came out and were focused. The first goal came on individual effort and it put us back from the very start, but after that we showed a lot of resolve and created some really good chances to get back in the game. We were unfortunate to give up the Own Goal, but down 2-0 at half we knew we created some chances and are a better second-half team. They played well but this is probably the toughest swing in conference. The girls still have a positive outlook and our team goals haven’t changed. We have to keep battling and we are looking forward to coming home to play.”
Evelyne Viens recorded a quick goal for USF as she put one into the back of the net with just 1:42 ticked off the clock. An Own Goal in the 25th minute gave the Bulls a 2-0 lead heading into the break and then Leah Ferlin added a score at the 70:01 mark for the final 3-0 score.
USF had a 19-11 lead in shots, including a 12-2 advantage in shots on goal, while both teams had three corner kicks.
Ashlyn Heckman had a team-best three shots, while Alyssa Kaiser and Anna Williams both added two attempts. Courtney McKeon logged all 90 minutes in goal and picked up eight saves.
Tulsa will return to action on Thursday, October 5 against UConn. Game time is set for 7:00 pm at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium.
