Tuten named Defensive Player of the Week
BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Lehigh junior Zarin Tuten was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Tuten helped spearhead Lehigh's defense, which had a strong week, allowing just two goals in two games.
Anchored by Tuten's defense, the Mountain Hawks picked up a 1-0 win at George Washington Saturday, their first of the season. Due to a red card, Lehigh played a man down for the game's final 63:10. The strong defensive effort came against a Colonials team that entered Saturday with a nation-leading nine goals through just two games.
The Mountain Hawks' defense held GW's Oscar Haynes-Brown point-less while playing a man down. Haynes-Brown entered the contest as the nation's leading scorer with seven goals through two games. Despite playing a man down for a little over an hour, Lehigh was only out-shot 14-12 (6-4 in shots on goal).
In addition to Tuten's honor, junior goalkeeper Will Smith received honorable mention recognition, after making 13 saves including six in the shutout win at George Washington.
The Mountain Hawks will look to take their strong defensive effort to Queens N.Y. on Tuesday night against St. John's. The matchup is set to begin at 7 p.m.
Senior Mark Forrest scored Lehigh's only goal against the Colonials on Saturday which ended up being the game winner. The goal, a penalty kick, came in the 18th minute. Forrest enters Tuesday as Lehigh's leading scorer with two goals and an assist for five points in three starts.
Senior Oscar Greene got the Mountain Hawks' offense off to an energetic start with two shots on goal early in the game. Greene finished second on the team in shots with three on Saturday.
Lehigh's opponent on Tuesday, the Red Storm, come into the matchup with a 2-1 record.
St. John's is led by Matt Forster, who has three goals through his team's first three games. The Red Storm entered the year picked seventh in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll.
The Mountain Hawks defeated St. John's last season 2-1 in the first matchup all-time between the two schools.
