U20 MNT roster for Four-Nations Tourney
U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team head coach Tab Ramos has named a 22-player roster for the upcoming 2016 U-20 Men’s Four Nations Tournament set to take place from Oct. 2-11 in Manchester, England.
The USA will first face Germany on Oct. 5 at 10 a.m. ET, then the Netherlands on Oct. 7 at 10 a.m. ET, and finally the host country England on Oct. 10 at 2 p.m. ET.
The tournament will serve as further preparation for the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup, which takes place in South Korea next May. Germany and England have already punched their ticket to the World Cup, so the USA will come in to these matches ready to face a potential opponent, were they to qualify for the tournament next year. The Qualifying tournament takes place next Feb. 17-March 5 in Costa Rica.
This will be the third tournament of 2016 for Ramos and the U-20’s as they recently competed in the 2016 Dallas Cup back in March and won the U-20 Men’s NTC Invitational in July.
Ramos is pulling out all the stops for the Four Nations tournament, calling up 17 professional players for the 22-player roster. Out of these 22 players, 11 compete abroad, four play with MLS clubs, three compete in the USL, three play at the collegiate level, and one plays with a Development Academy club.
“It’s an opportunity to see some of these players play together,” Ramos said. “Some of them have never played together before, and obviously having the opportunity to play Germany, England and Holland is huge. These are the type of games that when players make plays and do well you have to take that into account because it has a lot of value.”
This tournament will mark the return of Gedion Zelalem and Cameron Carter-Vickers to the U.S. U-20 squad for the first time since the 2015 World Cup, while Derrick Jones and Toni Suddoth receive their first U-20 MNT call-up.
