UC Davis Defeats CSU Bakersfield 4-3
BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—UC Davis (10-4-1) held off two CSU Bakersfield (3-12-1) rallies to defeat the Roadrunners 4-3 Thursday night at CSUB’s Main Soccer Field.
The Aggies broke the seal at 28:56 when Allison Kelly scored off a Rogan Dolan pass. 58 seconds later Taylor French (Fr., Monrovia, Calif., Maranatha HS) connected on a direct kick from 35 yards out. Lisa Kemp gave UC Davis the lead in the 46th minute when she dribbled past the CSUB defense and put the ball away from five yards. Kiele Aregente put the Aggies up 3-1 in the 51st minute on her fourth goal of the year.
French made it 3-2 when she again connected on a direct kick from 35 yards out a little over six minutes later. Taylor Jordan (So., Tulare, Calif., Tulare Union HS) tied the match at the 66:43 mark when she put in a Sam Peña (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS) pass from just outside of the 18. Kelly scored the gamewinner in the 70th minute. Kelly took an Ashley Edwards cross from three yards out for the goal.
“I commend our team for their effort,” said CSUB head coach Melissa Phillips. “Its not easy to come back from 3-1 down and they did a brillant job doing so. The key is to have that same sense of urgency and mentality when your down 2-1, that’s when we need that push and edge about us.”
Thursday night was the home finale for the Roadrunners. CSUB finishes the 2011 season with two matches on the road beginning Oct. 30 at Cal State Northridge. Kick is set for 6 p.m.
