UMass-Lowell Blanks Saints
Emily Bracken attempted seven of UMass-Lowell's 14 shots and scored the decisive goal in the 12th minute as the Riverhawks shut out Siena Women's Soccer 2-0 in Lowell, Mass. Danielle Christiano, Kirby O'Keefeand Tara Sobierajski each attempted three of the Saints' 13 shots.
Bracken lofted a shot from the top of the 18 over an outstretched Taylor Booth and just inside the far post for what would end up being the game-winning score. Siena (0-2) had a chance to tie things up late in the first half, but Christiano's shot from right to left deflected off the crossbar.
Despite being out-shot in the second half, the Saints played much of the stanza in the attacking third of the field. But UMass-Lowell (1-1) goalkeeper Jill Carlson made four of her six saves in the second half to post the clean sheet. Booth stopped three shots for Siena.
Sobierajski had two of the six shots on target for the Saints who are still in search of their first goal of 2014.
Sarah Raye put it away in the 84th minute for the Riverhawks, deflecting home a rebound after the initial shot hit the crossbar.
The Saints return home Thursday when they host Stony Brook for a 3 p.m. kickoff at Siena Field.
