UNCG Cruises Past Wofford 6-2 at Home
GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG (10-2-1, 5-0-0) cruised past Wofford (3-10-1, 1-5-0) for a 6-2 victory Sunday afternoon at UNCG Soccer Stadium. Five different Spartans scored for a season-high six goals with Natalie Sabiston leading the way with two.
Wofford scored the game’s first goal in the 11th minute off a breakaway, but UNCG tied it up 10 minutes later when Cienna Rideout scored her team-leading 11th goal of the season. Quiqui Hita lofted a ball over the defense from midfield to a streaking Rideout, who put the ball in the left side of the net.
Emily Jensen put UNCG ahead for good in the 37th minute when she headed a ball in from the middle of the box on a corner kick from Ashton Duty.
Sabiston recorded her first collegiate goal in the 44th minute. After Jordin Mosley put a shot off the right post, Sabiston collected the rebound and shot the ball into the empty net from the left side of the box a few yards out.
Nicole Souply added another goal in the half not even a minute later. Caroline Fiorella feed Souply a cross into the middle of the box from the right side.
Kaley Tucker had the first goal in the second half in the 51st minute. Tucker received a touch pass from Rideout and shot the ball in from the right side of the box.
The second goal from Sabiston came in the 89th minute. Grace Regal crossed the ball into the middle of the field just above the box, and Sabiston shot it into the left side of the net.
Aiyanah Tyler-Cooper (10-2-1) made five saves in the win. Kelley Mitchell made her collegiate debut and had one save in her 32 minutes of action.
The Spartans had a season-high 33 shots, 20 more than the Terriers, with 17 on goal. UNCG also had a sizeable 10-3 advantage in corner kicks.
UNCG had 13 players with multiple shots. Lauren Daniels recorded a team-high four shots, and Rideout, Jensen and Mosley each had three.
UNCG goes on the road next weekend home to face Western Carolina Friday at 7 p.m.
