UNCG to Face South Carolina in NCAA Tourney
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – UNC Greensboro women’s soccer, the 2018 Southern Conference Tournament Champions, will face No. 3 seed South Carolina in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, the NCAA announced Wednesday afternoon. The Gamecocks host the Spartans in the matchup, but no official time or date has been set. The game will either be on Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
UNCG (15-4-1) earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with a 2-1 win over No. 5 seed Furman Sunday in the SoCon Championship Game. The Spartans won their ninth SoCon Tournament Championship in program history and repeated as tournament champs for the third time, something no other current SoCon school has achieved.
South Carolina (13-5-1) received an at-large bid and the No. 3 seed in the region. Ranked No. 17 in the latest United Soccer Coaches’ Poll, the Gamecocks tied for third place in the SEC with a 6-3-1 conference record and reached the semifinals of the conference tournament.
