UNM's Wehan Consensus Player of the Week
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Having already earned one National Player of the Week award Monday, Chris Wehan is starting to see them roll in. On Tuesday both Top Drawer Soccer and the NSCAA awarded UNM's redshirt junior midfielder the same honor.
Wehan is coming off a weekend that saw him score all four of the Lobos' goals in a 2-2 draw with San Diego and a 2-1 win over UCSB. He was named both Tournament MVP and Offensive MVP of the Grange & Ashwill Memorial Invitational for his efforts. His four goals on the season rank fifth nationally after two weeks of play.
"It was a pretty special weekend," UNM head coach Jeremy Fishbein said. "Chris is a great player, but more importantly he's a great person and a tremendous leader. He sets the tone for our team in terms of his work ethic, his dedication and in how much he cares about the guys on the team. He's a guy you want to represent you at all times."
Wehan was also named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week, making him the second Lobo to earn a C-USA weekly award this season. Jason Beaulieu earned Defensive Player of the Week honors last week.
The Lobos are on the road this weekend, traveling to California to take on CSUN Friday night at 8 (MT) and No. 19 LMU Sunday evening at 5 (MT).
