In the build-up to Sunday’s CONCACAF U20 Championship group play game between U.S. and Jamaica, U.S. U20 Men’s National Team head coach Tab Ramos called it a must-win game. The U.S. got the message and achieved the goal with a 2-0 result against the host side.
Despite a lumpy cow patch of a field and a questionable referee crew, Ramos and his squad took care of work behind two penalty kick goals from Columbus Crew youngster Romain Gall. Homegrown players Tommy Thompson (San Jose Earthquakes) and Bradford Jamieson (LA Galaxy) drew the fouls in the box.
SC Freiburg goalkeeper Zack Steffen only had to make one save over the 90 minutes with the U.S. dominating the game and the host team showing very little in the attack.
The U.S. moves onto the final group play game against Trinidad & Tobago on Wednesday. It’s another must-win affair for the U.S. U20s, which still needs to improve in some areas prior to the upcoming playoff game.
