UST drops Cardinals in MIAC opener
Box Score | GameDay Preview
ST. PAUL, Minn. — As if playing in a steady rain wasn't bad enough, St. Thomas made life truly miserable for the Saint Mary's University women's soccer team.
The Tommies scored three goals in the first 15 minutes en route to a 6-0 victory in the teams' Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener.
Annamarie Strehlow, Taylor Sabrowski and Kelsie Sargent all scored their first goals of the season in the game's opening 15 minutes to give UST a commanding 3-0 advantage. The Tommies would push that lead to 3-0 on Kelsey Moll's goal in the 35th minute.
Strehlow and Jenna Savino would round out the scoring in the second half, scoring three minutes apart early in the half to seal the win.
Miranda Halling (Rochester, Minn.) was busy in goal for the Cardinals, as the sophomore goalkeeper finished with 11 saves — including seven in the game's opening 45 minutes. Tori Shepard, meanwhile, stopped both of SMU's shots in recording the shutout.
The Cardinals (0-1-0 MIAC, 0-5-0 overall) are back in action on Saturday, hosting St. Olaf in a 1 p.m. conference game at Ochrymowycz Field.
