UT Starts Pensky Era with Win

<p>KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee soccer got the <a href="http://www.utsports.com/sports/w-soccer/mtt/pensky_brian00.html">Brian Pensky</a>coaching era started out right with a 4-0 season-opening victory Friday at Regal Stadium, defending a 1-0 first-half lead with an offensive onslaught after halftime.</p>
<p>Senior captain <a href="http://www.utsports.com/sports/w-soccer/mtt/harrison_amy00.html">Amy Harrison</a> scored a career-high two, junior<a href="http://www.utsports.com/sports/w-soccer/mtt/brown_caroline00.html">Caroline Brown</a> had one goal and two assists and sophomore<a href="http://www.utsports.com/sports/w-soccer/mtt/moore_iyana00.html">Iyana Moore</a> had an assist trifecta to lead UT to its sixth consecutive season-opening win.</p>
<p>Brown got things going offensively for Tennessee midway through the first half. The returning All-SEC performer attacked up the middle and scored a goal from Moore in the 16th minute.</p>
<p>From there, it was all Tennessee (1-0) as the squad picked up the intensity on the offensive end.</p>
<p>Harrison scored the first of her two goals scoring in the 53rd minute and added her second seven minutes later. Her first goal was off a 1-2 give-and-go from Brown to Moore. On Harrison's second score, Brown found Moore in the far right corner and the sophomore speedster saved the ball from going out of bounds with a rainbow cross landing right in front of Harrison for a tap in near the left post.</p>
<p>Senior <a href="http://www.utsports.com/sports/w-soccer/mtt/bono_kylie00.html">Kylie Bono</a> added the final goal for Tennessee from the right side in the 67th minute. <a href="http://www.utsports.com/sports/w-soccer/mtt/lenz_katie00.html">Katie Lenz</a> had the assist, setting up Bono in the lower right</p>
<p>Sophomore goalkeeper <a href="http://www.utsports.com/sports/w-soccer/mtt/eckel_julie00.html">Julie Eckel</a> (1-0) picked up her first shutout of the season and the sixth of her career. Eckel had two saves in the game as UT dominated the possession in the second half.</p>
<p>Tennessee outshot Samford 16-7, including 12-6 in the second half. Samford midfielder Jordan Johnson had three shots (two on goal) for the Bulldogs and goalkeeper Jessica Perry (0-1) had three saves.</p>
<p>Twenty-three Tennessee field players saw action in the win as the Lady Vols improved to 8-0 all time when starting the year in Knoxville.</p>
