Utah Has Two Honored by Pac-12 Conference
SALT LAKE CITY - Utah soccer had two players honored by the Pac-12 Conference when the yearly postseason awards were handed out this afternoon. Senior Megan Trabert and freshman Paola van der Veen were recognized by the league for their outstanding accomplishments on the field.
Trabert, an Honorable Mention choice, capped her stellar career last weekend as the Utes trumped Colorado, 2-0. The senior started all 80 games during her career and finished this season tied for third on the team with three assists. During her junior campaign, she finished tied for the team lead with four goals and three assists, giving her 10 points.
She also excelled off the pitch as she was named a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection as well as a two-time Pac-12 All-Academic choice. Trabert becomes the third Utah defender to receive All-Pac-12 honors, joining Lauren Porter (HM, 2011) and Jenny Hutton (2nd, 2013).
Van der Veen became the fifth Ute to be named to the All-Freshman Team. She joins Avery Jenkins (2011), Lindsey Luke (2012), Katie Rogers(2013) and Mariah Elmer (2014). In her first season playing collegiate soccer, Van der Veen paced Utah with five assists and finished second on the team in scoring. A veteran of the Dutch youth national teams, Van der Veen suited up for ADO den Haag prior to her arrival in Salt Lake City.
