Utah Valley Drops 4-0 Decision at Utah
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah-The Utah Valley University women’s soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision to Utah at a rain-soaked Ute Field Sunday. With the loss, Utah Valley’s unbeaten streak ends at seven matches as the Wolverines fall to 5-3-2 on the season. Utah improves to 7-0-2.
“I’m very pleased with the way the team played today,” said Utah Valley head coach Brent Anderson. “I know the score doesn’t reflect the match but I think that we played very good soccer today. I actually think that we played better today than they have over the past couple of weeks. Utah has some very good athletes and some strong finishers and that was the difference today.”
The Wolverines played Utah to a 0-0 tie through the first 30 minutes of the match. Utah freshman forward Natalie Vukic scored the first of Utah’s four goals in the 31st minute. Utah then scored two goals in the 61st minute and another in the 70th to secure the win.
Seven different players recorded a shot for Utah Valley. Taylor Kirk led the Wolverines with two shots on goal. UVU tallied 11 shots, six of which were on goal in the match. Jessica Duffin recorded five saves in the box for the Wolverines.
“We’re getting ready for conference now and I think if our team goes out and plays like it did today through WAC play then we will be very successful,” Anderson said. “We’ve tested ourselves against some of the best competition we could during non-conference play and the girls have responded very well and they have put themselves in a good position for league play.”
Utah Valley’s attention now turns to WAC play, which will begin on Sunday, Sept. 28 at Seattle U. The Wolverines will also play at Bakersfield on Friday, Oct. 3.
