Utah Valley falls at Hawaii in overtime, 2-1
WAIPAHU, Hawaii—Sarah Lau found the back of the net in the 99th minute to give Hawaii a 2-1 overtime win over Utah Valley on Friday night in the OHANA Hotels by Outrigger Shootout at Waipaio Peninsula Stadium.
"We played really well and I'm extremely happy with our team's effort," said Utah Valley head coach Chris Lemay. "I'm really proud of our team and the way our players performed. We were just on the wrong end of the scoreboard tonight. You have to give credit to Hawaii. They played their brand very well. It was a great and entertaining soccer match. If we perform the way we did tonight, more often than not, the results will go our way."
UH committed a foul in the box in the 21st minute and Breanna DeWaal took advantage, firing a penalty kick past the UH keeper to give UVU a 1-0 lead.
Hawaii's Raisa Strom-Okimoto scored the equalizer in the 35th minute as she headed in a cross to tie the game, 1-1. Izzy Deutsch and Lillie French were credited with assists on the goal.
The Rainbow Wahine secured the match with a golden goal in the first overtime period (99th minute) as Lau found a deflected ball and back-heeled it into goal to give UH a 2-1 overtime victory.

The Wolverines (0-1-0) will have the opportunity to bounce back on Sunday as the team plays its second match of the Outrigger Shootout against Houston Baptist. HBU is 0-1-0 on the season after dropping a 2-1 double overtime decision to Fairfield on Friday.
