UTPA Falls to Utah Valley
EDINBURG – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women’s soccer team fell to the Utah Valley University Wolverines 5-0 on Friday at the UTPA Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
The Wolverines (9-5-2, 4-2-0 WAC) scored their first three of their goals in a span of 7:33 in the first half, starting at the 18:15 mark when McKell Salmon fed Sheridan Fox to make it 1-0.
Six minutes and five seconds later, Kali Stubbs buried a Kassandra Anderson rebound to make it 2-0.
Then, at the 25:48 mark, Kim Stratford, who had entered the game a minute and a half prior, fired a long shot from the sideline and found the upper right hand corner of the net to make it 3-0.
Sydney Fitzpatrick added a goal from close-in off a pass from Kali Stubbs to make it 4-0 at 65:40.
That was it against Broncs (8-4-4, 2-3-1 WAC) freshman goalkeeper Aubrie Coley (5-4-4), who made six saves in 73 minutes.
Freshman Harlingen South alum Erica Gonzalez made two saves over the final 17 minutes while also allowing a goal to Taylor Kirk on a feed from Jamie Brown at 82:03.
Jessica Duffin (9-5-2) posted her sixth shutout of the season for the Wolverines.
The Broncs play their final home match of the season on Sunday at 1 p.m. when they host defending WAC Champion Seattle U at the UTPA Soccer and Track & Field Complex. Gates open at 12.
