UW-Whitewater Opens Weekend with Road Win
The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team opened their weekend trip to Missouri with a 3-0 win over Westminster Friday at Battle High School in Columbia.
The Warhawks improve to 2-1-2 with the victory while the Blue Jays fall to 4-2.
Sophomore midfielder Deklan Corbett (Barrie, Ontario, Canada/Innisdale) put the Warhawks on the board with his third collegiate goal in the fourth minute of play. UW-W earned a corner kick and elected Jordan Kayser (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn) to take it. Kayser put the ball in play and Chris Roche (Manchester, England/Sale) corralled it, passed it to Corbett, and Corbett capitalized for a 1-0 lead.
Corbett put two other headers on goal in the next 10 minutes but the Westminster goalkeeper was there to make the save on both occasions.
Throw-in specialist Michael Salm (Grafton, Wis./Grafton) earned his fourth assist of the season when his toss from the sideline found the head of Justin Stanko (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) who knocked it in for a 2-0 lead just before halftime.
UW-W added to their lead in the 48th minute when Roche found a free ball in the box and knocked it in for a 3-0 advantage.
Warhawk goalkeeper Chris Lucatorto (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) earned the win after making three saves in the match. Toney Anderson (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) played the final 7:05 in goal to split the shutout with Lucatorto.
The Warhawk bus will travel East to St. Louis for a match against Webster at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
