Wania's Late Strike Lifts Siena
LOUDONVILLE, NY – Sophomore midfielder Caitlin Wania scored her first collegiate goal with just 3:33 remaining in regulation to lift Siena Women’s Soccer over Canisius 1-0 on Senior Day at Hickey Field. Junior goalkeeper Leslie Adams made five saves to register her second straight clean sheet.
Wania put home the decisive tally in the 87th minute, finishing a two-on-two break with junior striker Carrie Krohn. As Krohn and the keeper came together off Krohn’s initial shot, Wania was there for the rebound which she deposited into the vacated goal.
Siena (2-0) held a 10-7 advantage in shots and a 5-2 margin in corners to improve to 9-1-1 in their last 11 matchups vs. Canisius (0-4). The Golden Griffins suffered their fourth straight shutout loss to open the season, albeit three have been by 1-0 scores.
In search of their first 3-0 start since 2010, the Saints travel to Saint Peter’s Tuesday for a 2 p.m. kickoff on ESPN+.
