Wann Leads Richmond Past ODU, 2-0
NORFOLK, Va. - Richmond scored two goals in the span of two minutes in the first half and that was all the scoring as the Spiders defeated Old Dominion University women's soccer 2-0 Friday night at the ODU Soccer Stadium.
With the win, UR improves to 3-5 while ODU drops to 2-5.
Richmond got on the board in the 17th minute as Crystal Koczot sent a corner kick into the middle of the field that Becca Wann headed into the back of the net for her first goal of the season. It was Wann's first game of the season for UR as she missed the first seven games while playing for the United State's under-20 team.
Just two minutes later Wann added her second of the night as Kristen Lybert fired a shot that was stopped by Brianna Alvarado but Wann was able to put home the rebound to give Richmond a 2-0 lead.
In the second half Richmond had several opportunities but Brianna Alvarado came up big for the Lady Monarchs to keep the score 2-0.
ODU had five shots in the second half, including a shot from Kelly Evans that went wide right and one by Amber Cook that Andrea Young stopped, as ODU couldn't get on the scoreboard.
Richmond outshot ODU 18-7 and held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Alvarado made seven saves for ODU while Young made five stops for the Spiders.
ODU completes its season long five game home stand on Thursday, Sept. 20 when they host James Madison at 5 p.m.
