Warhawk Men Win Third Straight
On a cold and misty Friday evening in Whitewater, with slippery field conditions, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team topped Wisconsin Lutheran 4-0 to win their third straight match and improve to 6-2-2 this season.
The Warhawks pressured the Warrior defense for 90 minutes, outshooting the visitors 22-8.
In the first half an early goal by Jordan Kayser (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn) gave UW-W a 1-0 lead, but for the next 55 minutes the Warhawks struggled to finish.
Things finally opened up a bit when Hozai Ceballos (Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig) assisted on a goal by Alex Whiteman (Mount Prospect, Ill./Prospect) in the 67th minute to make it 2-0 in favor of the Warhawks.
Less than five minutes later Taylor Ortiz (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) found the back of the net with his second goal of the season.
Alex Bull (London, England/William Ellis) connected with Kevin Mesich (West Allis, Wis./West Allis Hale)in the 75th minute for the final goal of the match. It was both Bull's and Mesich's first assist and goal of the season.
Chris Lucatorto (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) played a majority of the minutes in goal for the Warhawks, making two saves and earning the win. Austin Gunkel (Minneapolis, Minn./Mounds View)made his second appearance of the season providing relief for Lucatorto and making one save.
Twenty-eight different players saw the field for Head Coach Tony Guinn, likely a strategic move since the Warhawks will have a quick turnaround.
UW-W travels to Rock Island, Illinois tomorrow for a match against Augustana at 7:30 p.m.
