Weiss, Tejera Earn MAAC Weekly Honors
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Siena Soccer freshmen Josh Weiss and Alexander Tejera earned MAAC Weekly honors Monday. Weiss was named the conference’s Defensive Player of the Week, while Tejera was tabbed the Rookie of the Week.
The duo has played an integral role in the Saints starting the season with a 3-0 mark for the first time in program history. Last week, Weiss and Tejera led the Saints to wins over 23rd ranked Boston University and on the road at Brown.
A native of Hicksville, N.Y., Weiss made three saves to post his second straight clean sheet to begin his collegiate career in Wednesday’s 1-0 win over the nationally ranked Terriers. Friday, he made six of his season-high seven saves in the second half as the Saints prevailed 2-1 at Brown. In his first three collegiate matches, Weiss is a perfect 3-0 between the pipes with two shutouts, a 0.33 goals against average, 10 saves and a .909 save percentage.
Tejera scored a goal in each of the Saints’ two matches last week, totaling four points. On Wednesday, he scored his first collegiate goal which proved to be the only goal of the match and thus the game-winner in the Saints’ upset of BU. On Friday, the Ossining, N.Y. native opened the scoring with his second goal in as many matches as Siena won its road opener against the Bears.
The Saints return to action tomorrow when they host Sacred Heart at 4 p.m. at Siena Turf Field before embarking on a program record six-match road trip which begins this weekend in Oregon.
