Wilmington Men Rout Rival Lightning, 11-0
The Wildcats of Wilmington University erupted for 11 goals in a rout of the rival Lightning of Goldey-Beacom College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) men’s soccer action at the Kirkwood Complex on Thursday afternoon.
The game was scoreless after twenty minutes of play, but it didn’t take long after that for the game to get out of reach. The ‘Cats (4-1-2 CACC/5-4-4) netted five goals over the next twenty minutes of play, and later added six more in the second half as they easily cruised to the victory.
Eddie Kowalo, Manny Payton, and Zach Hinte each posted two goals and an assist, while Tommy Quaranta and Ray Kuemmer added a goal and an assist apiece. Wilmington also received goals from Jose Hernandez, Shaheen Rahmani, and Mike Lewis. Kresimir Nurnberger and Vitor Lima each chipped in with a pair of assists.
A trio of keepers combined on the shutout, with Spryos Stergiotis (two saves) earning the win. Ignacio Farias (four saves) and Carlos Meinhard (four saves) split time in goal for Goldey-Beacom (0-5 CACC/0-7). Wilmington had a 38-5 advantage in shots, and also held an 8-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Wildcats are back in action on Saturday evening when they host their annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game at Caravel Academy. Game time is slated for 7:30 PM and all fans are encouraged to wear pink.
