Wilmington Men’s Soccer Debuts at No. 23
Winning six matches in a matter of 10 days has propelled the Wilmington University men’s soccer team into the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Continental Tire NCAA Division II Men’s National Poll on Tuesday.
After losing its season opener, the Wildcats (6-1, 3-0 CACC) have rattled off six consecutive wins, grabbing regional and national attention along the way.
The Wildcats debut in the National Poll at No. 23, sandwiched around Cal Poly Pomona and Northwood University (Mich.). This week’s poll saw five newcomers into the mix, starting with Tampa at No. 21 and followed by Cal Poly Pomona, Wilmington, Northwood, and Upper Iowa.
The winning streak has also bumped the Wildcats up to No. 4 in the East Region after sitting in fifth last week. The Wildcats defeated the then No. 4 Concordia on Saturday to take over the fourth position.
The East Region’s number one team, Southern New Hampshire, also tops the National Poll while Southern Connecticut State (#7), and Merrimack (#17) are also in the National Poll.
The University of the District of Columbia, Concordia, LIU Post, New York Institute of Technology, Adelphi, and Saint Michael’s round out the rest of the East Region Poll.
The Wildcats re back in action on Wednesday, as they square off against Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference foe Chestnut Hill at the WU Athletics Complex. The match is set for a 4 p.m. start.
