W&M Men's Soccer Falls to UNCW
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The William and Mary men's soccer team fell to UNCW, 3-0 on Wednesday night from Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field. After a scoreless opening half, the Seahawks broke the deadlock with a goal in the 48th minute en route to the victory. The Tribe falls to 2-7-2 overall and 0-2-1 in CAA action, while UNCW improves to 5-5-1 on the season and 2-1 in league play.
In first-half action, both teams battled for possession throughout, as the Tribe generated a quality look in the 15th minute. On the attack, speedy sophomore Chris Albiston launched a shot that sailed just high of goal. UNCW countered with an attempt in the 32nd minute, but Tribe sophomore keeper Bennett Jones' diving save turned the Seahawks away. The half ended with the Seahawks owning a narrow 6-4 edge on shots.
In the 48th minute, UNCW broke the scoreless tie after freshman Connor Bonner netted sophomore's David Sizemore's through ball. In response to the Seahawk goal, sophomore Marcus Luster along with Albiston fired off the tying shots, but both attempts were off target before reaching UNCW sophomore keeper Brad Newman. UNCW pushed its advantage to 2-0 when freshman Nathaniel Goodwin corralled a loose ball and punched it in from just eight yards away. The Seahawks capped the night's scoring with a goal in the 80th minute courtesy of freshman Hannes Schmitz.
