Wolf Pack falls to Rams, 1-0
The University of Nevada soccer team fell 1-0 to Colorado State Friday evening at Mackay Stadium.
With the loss, Nevada drops to (4-7-3, 2-3 MW) on the season, while Colorado State improves to (2-8-2,1-4 MW).
"I thought we struggled to keep possession and made some poor choices with the ball tonight," head coach Dr. Melissa Price said. "Colorado State did a good job of capitalizing on our mistake in the loss of possession to score the goal. At points in the second half we got a little bit better as far as our tempo and rhythm of play, but we were never really able to get back control of the game. We had some scoring opportunities where we hit a post our had a few goal line clearances on their part. Those are goals we want to score and in the end those our goals that are expected of us to score."
The Wolf Pack began the match controlling the majority of the possession on the pitch. The Rams rallied back in the 38th minute, as forward Sasha Pchenitchnikova had a one-on-one opportunity with Nevada goalkeeper Kelsey Quintos and scored a goal to put Colorado State ahead 1-0.
Nevada picked up its intensity out of the break in an attempt to pull even. Daisha Jones-Oglesby had a shot on goal in the early minutes that was saved by the Rams goalkeeper. In the 18th minute, Jones-Oglesby would get another opportunity in the Rams box, as the forward got off a blast towards the Colorado State net that just missed its target and hit the post. The Wolf Pack continued its attack, nearly putting in a ball that rolled on the Rams end line of the net, before being kicked away by the Colorado State defense. Nevada had a final chance to even the match on a corner kick with under a minute left in regulation, but Colorado State survived to win the match 1-0. The Wolf Pack attempted six corner kicks to none for Colorado State. Nevada attempted 12 shots in the game, while Colorado State had four.
The Wolf Pack will return to action next Friday, as the team will travel to New Mexico for a match at 4 p.m.
