Wolfpack Defeats Eagles to Open ACC Action
September 14, 2019
RALEIGH – The NC State men’s soccer team (3-1-1, 1-0-0 ACC) defeated previously unbeaten Boston College (4-1-0, 0-1-0 ACC) in its 2019 Atlantic Coast Conference opener on Saturday evening inside Dail Soccer Stadium.
NC State earned its lead in the first half, controlling much of the play and outshooting Boston College by a 7-2 margin in the opening 45 minutes. Early shots by Kuda Muskwe and Jamie Smith forced Eagles’ goalkeeper Giacomo Piccardo to make two challenging saves in the first 10 minutes. The Wolfpack broke the deadlock in the 24th minute on a corner kick from Gabriel Machado that freshman defender Pablo Pedregosa hit on a volley inside the far post. The goal was Pedregosa’s second in his last two matches and was the fourth assist of Machado’s NC State career.
The Wolfpack’s defensive unit of Pedregosa, Smith, and David Norris was very strong throughout the evening, only allowing one shot on target in 90 minutes. Redshirt senior goalkeeper Vincent Durand made a diving stop in the 73rd minute on Mike Suski’s low attempt.
