Wolfpack Falls at Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. – The NC State men’s soccer team endured a 3-0 defeat at Clemson in its final regular-season match of 2018 Saturday evening at Riggs Field.
NC State (8-5-3, 2-4-2 ACC) had two very good chances to score in the opening half. In the ninth minute, sophomore Manny Perez whipped in a dangerous ball from the right side to AJ Seals. The freshman struck a shot from six yards out that narrowly missed wide of the near post. Perez then found Tanner Roberts rushing up the field in the 21st minute and played in a cross that was nearly perfect, but just out of Roberts’ reach as he could only poke it wide of the left post.
Clemson (7-8-1, 2-6-0 ACC) opened the scoring in the 24th minute when Kimarni Smith took advantage of a defensive miscommunication. A long, bouncing ball at the top of NC State’s penalty area led to some confusion and Smith was able to chip a half volley over Krapf and into the back of the net.
The Tigers doubled their advantage in the 51st minute when Andrew Burnikel headed one in from eight yards away following an accurate cross from teammate Adrian Nunez. Robbie Robinson then made it 3-0 in the 75th when he hit a free kick from 25 yards over the NC State wall and just inside the left post.
NC State will host Boston College in the first round of the ACC Tournament on Wednesday, Oct. 31.
