Women move to second round with 1-0 win over Sewanee
Playing in the first SCAC Women's Soccer Tournament since 1992, the Centre College women advanced to round two with a 1-0 win over Sewanee-University of the South Friday, Nov. 4 in Birmingham, Ala.
The third-seeded Colonels improve to 13-3-2 overall, while the sixth-seeded Tigers end their season 6-11-2 overall.
The match was evenly played throughout with both teams registering three shots in the first half and six shots in the second half.
One of those second half shots for Centre found the back of the net as senior Kelsey Boling (Louisville, Ky.) scored her second goal of the season with only 5:37 left to play in regulation.
Senior goalkeeper Kelli Lenz (Louisville, Ky.) and the Colonels' defense did the rest as Centre notched its 13th shutout of the season. Lenz stopped both shots she faced in the victory.
The Colonels will return to action Saturday, Nov. 5 for a round two match-up against the host, Birmingham Southern College. The second-seeded Panthers earned a bye for the first round. Start time is set for 3:30 p.m. in Birmingham, Ala.
