Women's College Soccer: 10 for '12
Today we continue our contemplation of some women's college soccer players who might be making a bigger contribution to the fortunes of their respective teams. It’s not a top 10 list, just another way of looking forward to the approaching college soccer season. Make sure to catch Part One.
6. Amanda LeCave, Pepperdine - The sophomore who played club soccer at Santa Rosa United, got stopped on a good scoring chance in the Waves' NCAA Tournament loss to Long Beach State last November, and likely will be called on to provide more offense for Tim Ward's team in the coming season.
7. Jensen Skinner, San Diego State - After transferring to the Aztecs from Arizona, Skinner saw time at midfield and forward in 2011, starting a handful of games. This year the Oregon native could expand her role as Mike Friesen's team pursues a trip to the NCAA Tournament.
8. Jannelle Flaws, Illinois - Flaws used to tear it up for ELA Elite in club ball, but had to redshirt her first year for Janet Rayfield's Fighting Illini squad due to a knee injury. Last year she appeared in 22 matches and started the final regular season contest, scoring in a 3-2 win over Michigan. Look for Flaws to grow in her role as an offensive catalyst for the Big Ten Tournament champions.
9. Kaley Blades, LSU - The Florida native returned from a medical redshirt to appear in 20 games and score three goals last season. Blades will be one of the players coach Brian Lee is counting on to step up for the Tigers as they pursue an SEC West title.
10. Madison Whitehead, Colorado College - The midfielder from Dallas was putting together a terrific 2011 campaign before going down with a season-ending injury against UCF. Whitehead is one of the players who really has the vision to see the whole field and the technical ability to get the ball there in the right manner. Staying healthy and continuing to progress will be a major factor for the Tigers this year.
