Women’s NCAA tournament DI field announced
The road to Cary, North Carolina and the women’s College Cup officially starts now.
The NCAA announced the complete women’s bracket on Monday, setting the field of 64 for the run towards the 2013 women’s Division I national championship.
And there are plenty of familiar programs dotting the field. The ACC secured all of the four top seeds, with Virginia, Florida State, North Carolina and Virginia Tech tabbed in the top slots. That quartet also made up the semifinal field in the recent ACC tournament.
Amongst the other top seeds, the Big Ten is well represented. Penn State (No. 4) and Michigan (No. 3) are in Virginia’s bracket, while Nebraska (a No. 2 seed) is in Florida State’s.
Other seeded teams include Marquette, UCLA, South Carolina, Texas A&M, Denver, Portland, Santa Clara, Florida and UCF. First round begins this coming weekend, with games scheduled for either Friday or Saturday.
With a total of eight programs apiece in the field of 64, the Big Ten and ACC are tied with most teams involved. Other multi-bid conferences include the Pac-12, SEC (with six each), Big East (four), American Athletic, WCC and the Big 12 (three each).
