Women's Soccer Draws Siena, 1-1
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women's soccer team tied Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference rival Siena 1-1 on Oct. 1 on rainy night at Tenney Stadium.
After a scoreless first half, the Red Foxes got on the board first when senior Marjana Maksuti (Delmar, N.Y.) headed the ball into the net from the middle of the box off a pass from sophomore Juliette Loccisano (Hauppauge, N.Y.). Maksuti's first goal of the season came in the 59th minute. The Saints (4-5-3, 1-1-1) tied the score nearly 10 minutes later on a header from junior Cassy Landis. Junior Michelle Yanniello picked up the assist.
Siena had a pair of corner kicks in the second overtime, but the Red Foxes blocked a shot and freshman Ashley Houghton (Danbury, Conn.) made a save to preserve Marist's second tie of the season.
Houghton made five saves in net, including stopping a shot from Siena sophomore Tara Sobierajski in the final minute of regulation. Maksuti finished with a match-high six shots. Loccisano and sophomore Shannon Leonard (East Greenwich, R.I.) fired three shots apiece.
The Red Foxes will continue MAAC play when they host Fairfield on Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. in Tenney Stadium.
