Women's Soccer Edges Simmons 2-1
Danielle Figueroa (Bridgeport, Conn.) scored the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute to lift the Albertus Magnus women's soccer team over Simmons College 2-1 on Wednesday evening in Boston, Mass.
Figueroa came off the bench to tally her third goal of the season to lead the Falcons (6-1, 4-0 GNAC) to their fifth straight victory.
Simmons (2-5) took a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute as Keri Acheson scored her third goal of the year for the Sharks but Albertus bounced back and scored two straight goals to secure the victory.
Albertus' Meghan Loughman (Trumbull, Conn.) tied the game at one as she took a pass from Figueroa and found the back of the net at the 37:31 mark of the contest. Figueroa's tally came late in the game as it was her third goal in two matches.
Sophomore Meaghan Skidmore (Terryville, Conn.) earned the assist on Figueroa's game-winning goal. Figueroa finished the afternoon with five shots, including three on goal, while Amanda Roke (Cheshire, Conn.) tallied four shots on the night.
Christina Dineson (Milford, Conn.), who was named GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week for her efforts in last week's games, allowed one goal in 90 minutes, while she registered 12 saves. Simmons' Ashley Wheeler made nine stops for the Sharks.
Both programs recorded 20 shots in the contest.
Albertus returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 24 as the Falcons host Johnson and Wales (R.I.) in a 1:00 p.m. conference match-up at Celentano Field.
