Women's Soccer Falls 3-2 to Saginaw Valley
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Ohio Dominican women's soccer team (5-4-2; 2-3-1 GLIAC) fell to Saginaw Valley (4-5-1; 2-4-0 GLIAC) by a score of 3-2 on Sunday afternoon on the campus of Saginaw Valley State University.
The Cardinals opened the scoring at the 15 minute mark when Jennifer Goethals hit a shot from six yards out after a deflection by teammates Presley Tibbetts and Ashley Henderson.
SVSU added another tally in the last 30 seconds of the first half when Lindsey Arnett found the feet of Marci Northuis at the 12 yard line who zipped the ball to the top right hand corner of the goal.
Ohio Dominican was able to answer, and cut the lead to one in the opening minutes of the second half, when sophomore Amanda Fowler (Mansfield, Ohio) drilled a bouncing ball off a corner kick into the upper part of the goal.
Saginaw Valley's Ashley Henderson extended the Cardinal lead to 3-1 in the 74th minute, which proved to be the decisive goal.
The Panthers would cut the lead back down to one in the 77th minute when sophomore Lauren Pratt (West Chester, Ohio) knocked in her fourth goal of the season.
The Panthers and Cardinals were even on shots at 16 a piece while ODU keeper junior Laura Clark (Lapeer, Mich.) made eight saves in goal.
Ohio Dominican continues its four game road swing with a trip to Canton, Ohio on Friday, Oct. 11 for a 5 p.m. match against Walsh.
