Women's Soccer Shutout Pioneers 3-0
CANTON, Ohio – An early first half goal was all the Ohio Dominican women's soccer team needed, as the Panthers went on to shutout Malone 3-0 Sunday afternoon.
The Panthers are now 7-4-2 (4-3-1 GLIAC) while Malone fell to 3-7-1 (1-6).
Six minutes into the first half, junior Jordan Mazzi (Galena, Ohio) notched her sixth goal of the season with help from junior Broegan Sautter (Bellville, Ohio) and sophomore Lauren Pratt (West Chester, Ohio). Mazzi took a cross and finished the play to the open net for the score.
At the 19:22 mark, Pratt netted her sixth goal of the season, this time, with help from Mazzi and senior Megan Augusta (Lyndhurst, Ohio). The play was almost identical to the previous goal with Pratt taking a cross and hitting home the goal into an open net.
With 10 minutes left in the first half, freshman Madison Baldwin (Zanesville, Ohio) joined in on the scoring, connecting from 20 yards out for her fourth goal of the season.
The ODU defense held strong in the second half, yielding just four shots, 11 overall.
Sophomore Felicia Cuthbert (Marysville, Ohio) picked up her second career win, including her first shutout. She made seven stops.
For the game, the Panthers outshout the Pioneers 23-11 and held an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Ohio Dominican will return to the field on Friday, Oct. 18 for a 7 p.m. match against Northern Michigan. The game will be the Panthers annual "Pink Game." Fans are encouraged to wear pink to show support for breast cancer awareness.
