Women's Soccer Shuts Down Bloomsburg, 1-0
Box Score
Bloomsburg, PA – Earlier this afternoon, the women's soccer team took on the Huskies of Bloomsburg University in a non-conference contest. Despite attempting 10 shots while holding the hosts to zero, the Panthers played the Huskies scoreless through the first half. However, it was not until the 66th minute until Amanda Reverberi broke the silence and lifted the Brown and Gold to a 1-0 victory. With the win, Adelphi advances to 2-0 while Bloomsburg drops to 1-1.
The Panthers came out and dominated the entire first half, holding the Huskies shotless while taking 10 of their own, three of which were on target. Kaitlin Monteith put pressure on the hosts all throughout the first half, taking five shots, one of which came close to the back of the net but instead hit the cross bar and bounced back into play.
In a span of less than three minutes, the Panthers were awarded three straight corner kicks, but could not convert. Emily Masiello rounded out the final two shots of the half but was unsuccessful.
The Brown and Gold wasted no time keeping Bloomsburg keeper Danielle Fiorelli on her toes as she was tested by Donna Liotine and Aimee Goldstein. In the 65th minute, Goldstein sent a pass to Reverberi who blasted a shot from nearly 25 yards out to find the back of the net and give Adelphi a 1-0 lead.
In the latter stages of the game, Bloomsburg's Tara Huber and Katy Fexa tested their luck against Sam Whitney in a desperate effort to knot the game, but came up empty.
The Panthers outshot the hosts 15-3 and held a 9-2 corker kick advantage. Whitney made two saves in the win while her counterpart, Fiorelli made six.
Adelphi is back in action on Wednesday, September 5 at 7pm when they take on former East Coast Conference rivals, the Bears of NYIT.
