Women’s Soccer Slipped Up By LIU Brooklyn, 1
BROOKLYN, N.Y. – UMBC junior goalkeeper Lauren Kadet (Oakville, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas) recorded six saves against LIU Brooklyn in Sunday afternoon’s non-conference women’s soccer game at LIU Field, but it was not enough as the Blackbirds used a goal late in the first half to defeat the Retrievers 1-0.
LIU (1-3) earns its first win of the year, while UMBC moves to 1-4-1 on the year.
The Blackbirds got on the board, taking the lead with 2:31 left in the first half on freshman forward Mariana Ruas’s first collegiate goal. Ruas gathered a pass from Nicole Labo eight yards out in front of the net and blasted home the game-winner.
The Retrievers were unable to build off of their first victory of the season on Friday against Saint Peter’s, being outshot 12-2 by LIU, with UMBC sophomore Morgan Taylor (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) and freshman Alexa Quaranta (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) each recording a shot on the afternoon.
The Retrievers return to action on Friday, Sept. 7 when they travel to Bucknell.
