Player of the Week: Lindsey Harris, North Carolina
Harris has arguably been the best player for North Carolina for the bulk of the 2016 season, and is a big part of the team’s shutout success in the NCAA Tournament.
See who joins her on the final Team of the Week of the 2016 season below.
Team of the Week (Nov. 21-27)
GK Lindsey Harris, North Carolina – While there were a number of top goalkeeping performances over the weekend, Harris’ intervention on a South Carolina penalty kick preserved a 1-0 lead.
D Elizabeth Wenger, Georgetown – Logged 90 minutes and helped the Georgetown back line do just enough in the 1-0 victory against Santa Clara.
D Julia Ashley, North Carolina – The sophomore defender continues to have a quietly strong second season, playing another 90 minutes in a shutout victory.
D Kadeisha Buchanan, West Virginia – The senior center back kept a set piece alive that eventually found the back of the net off the foot of Alli Magaletta. Buchanan played 90 minutes as the Mountaineers kept a clean sheet in the 1-0 win over Duke.
D Julia Bingham, USC – The freshman right back’s floated cross in the first few minutes of Friday’s quarterfinal was turned into the back of the net by Alex Anthony. Bingham played the full 90 as the Pac-12 side held on against Auburn.
M Taylor Pak, Georgetown – The Hoyas punched their first ticket to a College Cup, and Pak’s work in the midfield went a long way in securing the victory at home.
M Alli Magaletta, West Virginia – Magaletta’s first half goal from a corner kick provided the eventual winner for the Mountaineers. She played the full 90 to help lock things down and keep Duke off the scoreboard.
M Kayla Mills, USC – The move into the midfield for Mills allowed Bingham to slot in as an outside back, providing a dominant spine. Mills is one of the best NWSL prospects in the senior class, and continued to prove that by helping USC do just enough to edge Auburn.
F Crystal Thomas, Georgetown – As she has all season, Thomas provided a spark off the bench in the program’s famous home win against Santa Clara. Her curling effort from range was the magical moment needed in a 1-0 win between two sides that were equal for long stretches.
F Madison Schultz, North Carolina – The freshman super sub continues to score decisive goal with a curling effort against South Carolina. Her tally was the fifth game winner in her last eight games.
F Alex Anthony, USC – Scored a glancing header in the game’s opening minutes that stood up over 90 minutes as the Pac-12 side topped Auburn.
