Georgetown is making its way back to the College Cup after beating Baylor 3-0, and it was a national champion that helped lead the way. Kyra Carusa transferred to the Big East side after being a key part of Stanford’s run last fall, and she unpinned her importance to the Hoyas against the Bears.
Player of the Week: Kyra Carusa, Georgetown
Carusa was credited with a pair of assists and scored the second goal of the game as Georgetown made it to a second College Cup in three seasons. See who joined her on the final Team of the Week below.
Team of the Week: November 19-25
GK Alison Jahansouz, Stanford – With a 2-0 lead, Tennessee had a big chance in the second half to cut into it when they earned a penalty kick in the second half. Jahansouz stepped up and saved the spot kick, keeping the two-goal lead.
D Meaghan Nally, Georgetown – A hugely impressive performance against Baylor saw the Hoyas return to the College Cup for the second time in three seasons. Nally helped keep a shutout, limiting the Bears to just six shots on the day in a 3-0 victory. She also setup Georgetown’s second goal of the day.
D Julia Ashley, North Carolina – Another Team of the Week appearance for the Carolina right back from New Jersey, Ashley helped the ACC side advance on penalty kicks after a 2-2 draw. There’s no question that Ashley’s early goal from a corner kick proved to be a huge difference for the Heels, as it gave them breathing room and an early jolt to UCLA.
D Natalia Kuikka, Florida State – The Seminoles back line was a big part of their College Cup return, limiting Penn State to just a pair of shots on target in a 1-0 victory. Kuikka led the effort in a 90-minute shift.
D Kelly Ann Livingstone, Georgetown – It was the sophomore’s opening goal that proved to be enough, even as the Hoyas tacked on a pair of extra goals. Livingstone scored in the eighth minute to put Georgetown up by a goal and they never looked back.
M Jaye Boissiere, Stanford – Another midfielder capable of winning games and dictating play, Boissiere setup Catarina Macario’s goal with a nice through ball that took a fortunate deflection.
M Jaelin Howell, Florida State – An 88-minute shift in midfield from the freshman was key in laying the foundation for FSU’s shutout and win.
M Dorian Bailey, North Carolina – Bailey’s goal, UNC’s second on the day, proved vital when UCLA struck back with two goals within a minute of each other in the second half. The senior is crucial to the program’s hopes of securing a first national title since 2012.
M Kyra Carusa, Georgetown – With a goal and two assists, Carusa reached the double-digit mark in goals and assists. She gives the Hoyas belief that they could pull off a huge upset in Friday’s national semifinal.
F Catarina Macario, Stanford – With a goal and assist against Tennessee, Macario continues to remind college soccer fans why she’s one of the best in the country. Stopping her is the key to slowing Stanford down at this stage of the season.
F Deyna Castellanos, Florida State – It took a moment of magic from Castellanos to break the deadlock against the Nittany Lions, as she scored a goal from outside the box that proved to be all the Seminoles would need.
