Women's Team of The Week: October 4
There was a real calm to Izzy D’Aquila’s opening goal for Santa Clara against Pacific. The striker rolled off the shoulder of the last defender, let the ball skip along the turf, before lifting a volley over the goalkeeper’s head and into the far corner. It was a difficult goal made to look very easy. And it was emblematic of the senior’s performance last weekend, as D’Aquila scored three to lift Santa Clara over Pacific — but never seemed to labor in doing so. With 11 goals on the season, she might just keep Santa Clara in the WCC race.
Player of the Week: Izzy D’Aquila, Santa Clara
Women's Team of the Week: September 26-October 2
GK Holland Stam, Northeastern - Stam was crucial for the Huskies last week, collecting 14 saves across two games and keeping a clean sheet against Stony Brook.
D Shae Holmes, Washington - Holmes played almost every minute as Washington picked up two wins. She was solid defensively and also contributed going forward, registering a goal and an assist.
D Carly Raunig, Missouri State - Raunig helped the Bears keep two clean sheets, while also assisting the game winner against Southern Illinois.
D Emily Mason, Rutgers - Mason bagged a brace as Rutgers beat Purdue last week. She also assisted Rutgers’ only goal in a hard fought tie with Northwestern.
M Croix Bethune, USC - Bethune has been at the center of USC’s recent hot streak, and her influence was vital last week. She provided three goals and three assists as the Trojans picked up back-to-back Pac 12 wins.
M Molly McLaughlin, Xavier - McLaughlin scored twice for Xavier, including a powerful header to dispatch Villanova on the road.
M Lia Godfrey, Virginia - Godfrey was a clam presence for Virginia in its 1-0 win over Duke. She combined well throughout and scored the game’s only goal — a neat finish on the counter.
M Taylor Huff, Tennessee - Huff pulled the strings in midfield as Tennessee continued to pick up wins. Her calming presence helped the Vols to a crucial SEC win over Ole Miss.
F Izzy D'Aquila, Santa Clara - D’Aquila put away Pacific by herself on October 1, scoring all three of her team’s goal to keep Santa Clara in the WCC title picture.
F Jordyn Wickes, Michigan State - Wickes had the biggest game of her Michigan State career on September 29, scoring and assisting as the Spartans beat a top 10 Penn State team.
F Reilyn Turner, UCLA - Turner only needed 19 minutes to complete a hat-trick for the Bruins against Oregon State. All three goals were well taken, as the striker is starting to round into form.
