Wyoming Soccer Falls to Boise State, 2-1
BOISE, Idaho (Sept. 30, 2018) – The Wyoming soccer team (7-3-2 overall, 2-2-0 MW) dropped a 2-1 contest against the league leading Boise State Broncos (9-2-0, 3-0-0 MW) on Sunday afternoon.
Each team got early chances on goal but came up empty. The Cowgirls took advantage at the 8:26 mark with a goal by senior Brittney Stark with the assist by junior Summer Taube to make it a 1-0 contest. Wyoming would try to extend the lead with three straight shots over a five minute span but no offense would come of it. Boise State would put the pressure on and it would finally pay off. The leading scorer in the league Raimee Sherle would score the equalizer at the 39:19 mark. It would be 1-1 headed in to the halftime break.
Boise State struck back early in the second half with a penalty shot after a Wyoming foul. Sherle buried the ball past goalie Hannah Lee to make it a 2-1 lead for the Broncos in the 54th minute. That would prove to be the game winner. The Cowgirls would be outshot 9-3 the remainder of the half to come away with the victory.
“It was a really tough game. We were right there with them and did a nice job executing our game plan,” head coach Pete Cuadrado said. “It’s tough to lose on a soft penalty kick, but when you play one of the best teams in the conference you can’t put yourself in those types of situations. Overall, it’s not been a bad stretch since they were all on the road. Now we have to turn our attention to these couple of games at home.”
The Cowgirls will return home for a pair of home contests next weekend. They will host Colorado College on Friday followed by a game with Air Force on Sunday. The game on Friday is set for 3 p.m. MT while the match against the Falcons will be played at 12:30 p.m.
