Wyoming Soccer Wraps Up Spring Season
Wyoming Soccer Wraps Up Spring Season against Alumni
Cowgirls close spring having won three of last four matches
LARAMIE, Wyo. (April 24, 2014) -- The University of Wyoming women’s soccer team is coming off an impressive team performance this past weekend and will conclude its 2014 spring season on Saturday when it takes on former Cowgirls in the annual Alumni Game. The match will take place at 1 p.m. MT in the Wyoming Indoor Practice Facility.
Having traveled to Grand Junction, Colo., UW faced Colorado Mesa last Saturday and competed against Fort Lewis on Sunday. Starting the weekend off with Colorado Mesa, UW had many offensive chances and held on for a 1-0 win against the Mavericks. Junior Kasey Curtis scored the game winner and was assisted by freshman Brooklyn Chambers. On Sunday, Wyoming’s offense proved to be too much against Fort Lewis. The Cowgirls raced out to a 3-0 lead at halftime and finished the match with a 4-0 decision. Freshman Alisha Bass scored a hat trick for Wyoming with freshman Laurel Ramer assisting on the second goal and Chambers assisting on the third. Sophomore Mollee Ramsay had the fourth goal for the Cowgirls, while freshman Sammi Dunda had the assist.
“To come away with two wins was the first goal of the weekend,” Wyoming head coach Pete Cuadrado said. “But also to be able to really put a team away was a big step for us. We have won a lot of games this spring and to get the ball into the net multiple times was good to see.”
On April 5, Wyoming made the road trip to Salt Lake City for matches against Utah and Utah Valley. They defeated Utah Valley in penalty kicks after ending regulation tied 0-0. Junior goalkeeper Alex Boehm had two saves in the shutout before the Cowgirls fell to Utah, 3-0
“Throughout the spring our possessions have been better,” Cuadrado said. “We have a bunch of seniors and a bunch of freshman, so seeing the younger girls make that natural progression of maturity on the field is starting to show. For the most part we have stayed healthy and it’s shown as we have gotten into the last few weeks of spring.”
