High school player named to Concacaf XI
On a list of such household names as Alex Morgan, Lindsey Horan and Crystal Dunn, sits a high school junior from Montverde Academy.
Jody Brown, a junior who has helped Montverde Academy to an undefeated season so far and a lofty FAB 50 winter national ranking, was named to the Concacaf Women's Best XI on Tuesday.
The list is dominated by U.S. players, which won the 2018 Concacaf Wmen's Championship. Morgan was named the 2018 Concacaf Women's Player of the Year and Alyssa Naeher was selected as the 2018 Concacaf Female Goalkeeper of the Year. The other U.S. players are Dunn, Becky Sauerbrunn and Horan.
Mexico had a pair of selections in Tanna Sanchez and Nicole Perez. Canada was represented by Kadeisha Buchanan and Christine Sinclair. Brown and Khadija Shaw represented Jamaica.
Brown was named the Best Young Player at the event. She scored a goal in the third-place match, which Jamaica won over Panama in penalty kicks. Brown netted a hat trick in the team's 9-0 group win over Cuba.
For Montverde Academy this season, Brown has scored 19 goals as the Eagles are off to a 14-0 start.
