FORWARDS
Frankie de la Camara, Belen Jesuit (Miami, Fla.), Sr.
It seemed only fitting de la Camara netted a hat trick in his final high school match, which proved to be a first-ever state title for Belen Jesuit. The Penn State signee scored 59 goals and added 15 assists while leading Belen Jesuit to a 27-0-2 season and a SIMA FAB 50 No. 4 final ranking.
Leonardo Novaes, Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.), Sr.
Unlike recent years when Montverde Academy had one dominant finisher, this year's team shared the wealth, led by Novaes. The Saint Louis signee scored a team-high 14 goals. He won the Golden Boot honor at the season-ending Montverde Academy Soccer Tournament, where the Eagles defeating defending champions from Arizona, California and Louisiana to cap a sixth straight undefeated season.
Harris Partain, Frisco Wakeland (Texas), Sr.
The Dallas Morning News Player of the Year carried Frisco Wakeland to a state runner-up finish and a 25-1-1 season. The Central Arkansas signee scored 40 goals and and added 17 assists. Partain hails from a true soccer family -- his father was a professional player, his mother played at Texas Christian and his older brother plays for Wake Forest.
Ezequiel Quijada, Canoga Park (Canoga Park, Calif.), Sr.
Quijada was named the Los Angeles Daily News Player of the Year for the second straight season, one in which the record-setting striker pushed the scoring bar very high. He had 45 goals and 29 assists, helping Canoga Park to a LA Section title and a Southern California Regional semifinal appearance. His 45 goals is a LA City Section record, as is his 146 career goals.
MIDFIELDERS
Irving Arvizu, Cathedral (Los Angeles, Calif.), Jr.
Arvizu was a CIF-Southern Section first-team honoree after helping Cathedral to a 25-3-2 record and a SIMA FAB 50 Top 10 finish. The Cal State-Fullerton commit scored 18 goals and had 14 assists. He provided a clutch, 79th minute goal in Cathedral's 1-0 victory over eventual Florida state semifinalist Tampa Jesuit at the Montverde Academy Soccer Tournament. Arvizu was named to the MAST all-tournament team.
Bruno Lapa, Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.), Sr.
Lapa was the first of 12 Montverde Academy seniors to commit to NCAA Division I programs this past season when he committed and eventually signed with Wake Forest. Lapa scored six goals and had a team-high 11 assists, helping Montverde extend its national record undefeated streak to 136 matches.
Connar Lufkin, Tampa Jesuit (Fla.), Sr.
Lufkin was named the Tampa Bay Times Hillsborough County Player of the Year after leading Jesuit to a state semifinal finish. The Jacksonville signee scored the first two goals of he match in what ended up as a 3-2 loss to eventual state champion Ponte Vedra. Lufkin, whi was named to the Montverde Academy Soccer Tournament all-tournament team, finished the season with 19 goals -- seven game winners -- and 12 assists.
Bryan Ortega, Paramount (Paramount, Calif.), Jr.
Ortega, one of the top projected high school recruits for 2017, was named the Press-Telegram Player of the Year after leading Paramount to a 20-2-3 season. He had 12 goals and a team-high 24 assists.
Elliot Smith-Hastie, Loyola (Los Angeles, Calif.), Sr.
Smith-Hastie earned CIF-Southern Section Division 1 Player of the Year honors after leading perennial power Loyola to a 28-4 record and section and regional championships. The Boston College signee finished the season with 22 goals and 17 assists.
DEFENDERS
Esteban Calvo, Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.), Sr.
Montverde Academy's dominance might be well summed up by Calvo's statistics. The Florida International signee and Costa Rican Under-20 National Team player scored five goals while anchoring a defense from the center back spot that allowed only four goals all year in completing a sixth straight undefeated season.
Andrew Grimmer, Coppell (Coppell, Texas), Sr.
Grimmer was a Dallas Morning News first-team selection after helping Coppell to an undefeated season, a Class 6A state title and a SIMA FAB 50 No. 2 finish -- the highest ranked public school. The Florida Southern signee anchored a defense that posted 14 shutouts. He was selected as the District 7-6A Defensive MVP.
GOALKEEPER
Patrick Hillyard, Cinco Ranch (Katy, Texas), Sr.
A two-time Houston Chronicle honoree, Hillyard was a driving force for a Cinco Ranch program that has gone 44-4-9 over the past two seasons. The SMU signee had a goals against average of 0.52 over the past two years as the program claimed back-to-back Class 6A Region III titles. Last year's team was a state runner-up, this year's squad reached the state semifinals.
COACH OF THE YEAR
Chad Rakestraw, Coppell (Coppell, Texas)
In only five years at the helm, Rakestraw has built a dynasty at Coppell with three state final appearances in Texas' most grueling classification. The Texas 6A playoffs, for the schools that qualify, is a 128-team, single-elimination event. The sports-crazed school boasts stellar athletic facilities that has helped Rakestraw enhance his program, which includes two JV teams to feed the varsity. This year's Coppell team went 24-0-2 and won the Class 6A state title, its second under Rakestraw. Coppell finished No 2 in the SIMA FAB 50 and was the nation's highest-ranking public school for the second time in four years.
