HS: Fall state, regional rankings, Oct. 15
Following weeks of relative stability, a few state and regional rankings were overhauled based on last week's results.
In boys soccer, Fairfield Prep (Conn.) moves to the front of the Northeast region rankings. While many of the teams remain the same in the Midwest region, there was quit a shuffle since six teams of the Top 10 lost matches last week. On the state level, Connecticut, Idaho, New Hampshire and North Dakota welcome new No. 1 teams this week.
In girls soccer, Newton South (Mass.) leapfrogs to No. 1 in the Northeast region rankings this week and in the verge of a FAB 50 Top 25 spot. The following states welcome new No. 1 teams: Connecticut and New Jersey.
This past week, the Dakotas crowned state champions. With snowy, blustery conditions at the South Dakota boys final, it is easy to understand why this state gets an early wrap on its fall high school season. This week, Indiana's state champions will be crowned, marking the frist of the major fall states to finish high school play.
EARLY STATE CHAMPIONS:
Boys -- North Dakota: West Fargo; South Dakota: AA: Washington, A: Tea Area.
Girls -- Mississippi: Jackson Academy; South Dakota: AA: T.F. Riggs, A: West Central.
