HS: Final Spring state, region rankings
Three undefeated SIMA FAB 50 Top 25 girls soccer teams entered the week seeking state titles.
Only one walked away with a crown -- and to little surprise it was Forest Hills Central (Grand Rapids, Mich.).
Forest Hills Central started the season at No. 10 nationally when the SIMA FAB 50 preseason rankings were released Feb. 7. Four months later, this Michigan power is poised to finish there following Saturday's 2-0 state final win over Grand Blanc (Mich.). Cincinnati-bound Bailey Korhorn scored the game winners for FHC last week in both the semifinal and final as the team finished 20-0-4.
Things didn't go quite as planned for Forest Hills Northern (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Unity Christian (Hudsonville, Mich.). Unity Christian was upset in the Division III state semifinals and Forest Hills Northern fell to fellow undefeated Marian (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) in the Division II final.
Forest Hills Central ends the season as the top-ranked team in the Great Lakes region, which includes teams from Michigan and Wisconsin -- the last two states to finish high school play this school year. In Wisconsin, Brookfield Central (Brookfield, Wis.) won the large-school state title and will finish in the SIMA FAB 50.
High school boys soccer for the spring finished last week.
