HS: Lotto Showcase Best XI
SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. -- As a final salvo to the Lotto Sport Western Showcase, TopDrawerSoccer offers its Best XI from the eight-team event that featured five nationally ranked programs.
Servite (Calif.) entered the tournament as the highest ranked team -- then No. 5 in the FAB 50, and came away as the champion, handling Auburndale (Fla.) 5-0 in the final. Five teams from the event remain in this week's FAB 50, but only Servite in the Top 25 and San Clemente (Calif.) enters the rankings following a third-place finish while Watsonville is out after a seventh-place finish.
BEST XI
F Blake Bowen, San Clemente (Calif.), Jr.: The speedy forward/midfielder scored twice and constantly put defenses under pressure.
F Cade Fuller, Servite (Calif.), Jr.: Big, strong, athletic, Fuller delivered his best outing in the final, where he scored two goals.
F Oliver Meza, Paramount (Calif.), Sr.: Meza scored Paramount's only goal during a fourth-place finish.
M Uriel Sanchez, Servite (Calif.), So.: A Development Academy player shows signs of being a big-time recruit.
M Noah Sims, Auburndale (Fla.), Jr.: Sims was the standout performer with a high work rate for second-place Auburndale.
M Marc Trejo, Servite (Calif.), Sr.: Dominated midfield play as Servite went 3-0 and outscored opponents 10-1.
M Tristan Weber, San Clemente (Calif.), Sr., Portland: A recent U17 Residency player, Weber was the most exciting player at the event, and he always commanded attention from defenses.
D Corbin Mercado, Servite (Calif.), Sr., Loyola Marymount: One of the nation's top offensive-minded defenders. He finished with three goals while anchoring a defense that allwoed one goal in three matches.
D Austin Roberts, Buchanan (Calif.), Sr.: Roberts was among the more versatile players at the event, spending time as defender and forward.
D Mason Robicheaux St. Paul's (La.), Sr., Appalachian State: Robichaeux's play was key to St. Paul's not allowing a goal during the event.
GK Kyle Schmitt, St. Paul's (La.), Sr.: Schmitt posted three shutouts as St. Paul's did not allowed a goal during the Lotto Showcase.
