HS: No. 1 on the line when prep powers meet
The playoffs remain two weeks away, but Wednesday's clash between No. 1 South Kent School (South Kent, Conn.) and No. 3 Berkshire School (Sheffield, Mass.) could pave the way to a Prep Top 10 national title for one of these storied boys programs.
The match, scheduled for Wednesday at 2:45 p.m. EST, can be viewed here live.
When the Prep Top 10 was launched in 2011, South Kent finished No. 1. The past three years, Berkshire has topped the rankings -- although it shared the 2013 title with Hill School (Pottstown, Pa.).
The winner of Wednesday's clash will be in position to finish No. 1 as long as it can add a prep tournament title to the resume by season's end. Of course, No. 2 Milton Academy (Milton, Mass.) will have a say in the matter since it holds the distinction of being the only team to defeat Berkshire this year.
Berkshire rolls into Wednesday's meeting with a high-powered offense led by Mutaya Mwape and Ifunanyachi Achara. The Bears are averaging more than 5 goals per match over its last eight contests. South Kent School, meanwhile, has been winning with defense. Led by keeper Detre Bell, the Cardinals have shut out its last five opponents and allowed only four goals in a 13-0 start.
