HS: SIMA FAB 50, April 4
NEWS: Another week, another No. 1 in the SIMA FAB 50 girls soccer rankings.
Naperville North (Naperville, Ill.), TopDrawerSoccer.com's preseason No. 1 team in a loaded Chicago area -- a ranking that was reinforced when Chicagolandsoccer.org also tabbed the team No. 1 in the area, moves up to the top spot and is now the fourth team to hold that position this season.
Interestingly, Naperville North takes over No. 1 in similar fashion to the three previous teams -- by not playing the week before!
Tulsa Union (Tulsa, Okla.) started No. 1, but lost its opener, turning over the top spot to Collinsville (Ill.), which in turn lost its opener. The No. 1 spot then the went to St. Thomas Aquinas (Overland Park, Kan.), which had not played prior to the No. 1 ranking. At least St. Thomas Aquinas won two matches before losing last week and actually held the ranking for two weeks. Naperville North, which had played and won two matches prior to spring break, was idle last week.
Overall, there was quite a shakeup in the girls Top 25, although there is only one former unranked team joining the Top 25. The week ahead poses some interesting matches, especially with No. 17 J.L. Mann (Lexington, S.C.) taking on a pair of nationally ranked out-of-state foes at the Smoky Mountain Cup in Tennessee.
BIG MOVERS: BOYS: Creighton Prep (Omaha, Neb.). A preseason Top 5 team, Creighton Prep is quickly working its way back up the rankings, moving from No. 19 to No. 11 this week. A 7-2 thrashing of defending state champion West Des Moines Valley (Iowa) was cause for the jump, and it could send quite a signal showing the difference in level of play between top teams in those respective states. ... GIRLS: Notre Dame de Sion (Kanas City, Mo.). For the second straight week, a Missouri team nets this honor, and this time it's Notre Dame de Sion for winning the Bob During Mo-Kan Challenge title. The defending Missouri Class 3 champs jumped from No. 17 to No. 4 this week after beating former SIMA FAB 50 No. 1 St. Thomas Aquinas and Lee's Summit North (Lee's Summit, Mo.) -- both teams were undefeated entering the match.
NEWCOMERS: BOYS: No. 23 Archbishop Murphy (Everett, Wash.), No. 24 Har-Ber (Ark.), No. 39 Collierville (Tenn.), No. 44 Blacksburg (Va.), No. 45 Auburn Mountainview (Auburn, Wash.), No. 46 West Potomac (Alexandria, Va.), No. 49 Dobyns-Bennett (Kingsport, Tenn.) and No. 50 Lexington (Neb.). ... GIRLS: No. 18 Patriot (Nokesville, Va.), No. 34 Grand Blanc (Mich.), No. 35 Carl Sandburg (Orland Park, Ill.), No. 36 Broomfield (Colo.), No. 37 Granite City (Ill.), No. 38 Warren Township (Gurnee, Ill.), No. 41 Valor Christian (Highlands Ranch, Colo.), No. 42 Kellam (Virginia Beach, Va.), No. 44 Utica Ford (Sterling Heights, Mich.), No. 45 Glenbard East (Lombard, Ill.), No. 48 Triad (Troy, Ill.), No. 49 Columbus (Ga.) and No. 50 Cardinal Gibbons (Raleigh, N.C.).

WINTER RANKINGS
NEWS: Now the fun begins in Texas.
Starting with the Round of 32, nationally ranked teams start to clash in the upcoming rounds of the Texas 6A and 5A playoffs. After playing only one round each of the past two weeks, Texas will play down from 32 to the final four by the end of the week. A boys clash between Hebron (Texas) and Southlake Carroll (Texas) and a girls match between Coppell (Texas) and Sachse (Texas) highlight the Round of 32 play.
BIG MOVERS: BOYS: Coppell (Texas). If Coppell can run the table, look for the Cowboys to jump even higher than its current No. 5 ranking. Last week, Coppell handled nationally ranked The Woodlands (Texas) 6-3 in a game if built a 4-0 lead. Considering The Woodlands' showing at the Montverde Academy Soccer Tournament, the Coppell result takes on an even greater significance. ... GIRLS: Keller (Texas). Keller jumped up three spots from No. 16 to No. 13 this week, marking the largest move among ranked teams.
NEWCOMERS: BOYS: No. 30 Cypress Ridge (Houston, Texas), No. 47 Clark (San Antonio, Texas) and No. 50 Seven Lakes (Katy, Texas). ... GIRLS: None.
