HS: Spring FAB 50 rankings, June 11
One week remains in the 2019 spring high school season, and the girls FAB 50 final No. 1 hangs in the balance.
It's down to two teams -- current No. 1 Novi (Mich.) and No. 2 Yorktown (Va.).
If Novi can win both of its matches this week, it will repeat as state champs while running its undefeated streak into the 30s. And with that will come a third FAB 50 national title. However, a Novi loss will leave Yorktown as the FAB 50 national champion.
Now, on with the rest of the rankings ...
BIG MOVERS: BOYS: Charlottesville (Va.). Charlottesville jumped from No. 22 to No. 7 in the next-to-last rankings after winning the Virginia 4A title in a loaded field. Charlottesville defeated a pair of undefeated teams in the semifinals and final to claim the crown. ... GIRLS: Marian (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.). This former FAB 50 top-ranked team is back in the Top 10 as it eyes a third straight state title this week. Marian moved from No. 14 to No. 9.
NEWCOMERS: BOYS: No. 23 Mills Godwin (Richmond, Va.), No. 37 James Madison (Vienna, Va.), No. 47 First Colonial (Virginia Beach, Va.) and No. 50 Western Albemarle (Crozet, Va.). ... GIRLS: No. 40 Albemarle (Charlottesville, Va.), No. 41 Forest Hills Central (Grand Rapids, Mich.), No. 48 Assumption (Davenport, Iowa), No. 49 Waubonsie Valley (Aurora, Ill.) and No. 50 Hoggard (Wilmington, N.C.).
