HS: Spring SIMA FAB 50, May 12
TOP STORY: St. Joseph's Academy (St. Louis, Mo.) has long been a girls soccer power in Missouri. Now, the Angels will have a chance to add to its national legacy.
St. Joseph's, last week's No. 2 team, moves into the SIMA FAB 50 Spring Girls No. 1 spot this week following a loss by former top-ranked Harrison (Kennesaw, Ga.), which had been No. 1 since the preseason.
St. Joseph's is the defending Missouri state champion and has wins over four current or recent SIMA FAB 50 teams.
The Angels have a history of success, which includes a SIMA FAB 50 national title in 2002. That year, the team also was named top overall squad for the 2001-2002 school year.
BIG MOVERS: BOYS: Greater Atlanta Christian (Norcross, Ga.) moves up 12 spots from No. 45 to No. 33, thanks in large part to a series of losses by higher-ranked teams last week. GAC has a chance to secure a SIMA FAB 50 ranking as it competes for a state title this week. GIRLS: Wheaton North (Wheaton, Ill.) moves from No. 23 to No. 7 this week after defeating former No. 5 Naperville North (Naperville, Ill.), which settles in at No. 8.
NEWCOMERS: BOYS: No. 35 Riverwood (Sandy Springs, Ga.), No. 40 Briar Woods (Ashburn, Va.), No. 42 Puyallup (Puyallup, Wash.), No. 44 Oak Mountain (Birmingham, Ala.), No. 45 Oak Ridge (Oak Ridge, Tenn.), No. 46 Shorecrest (Shoreline, Wash.), No. 47 Bentonville (Bentonville, Ark.), No. 48 Atlanta International (Atlanta, Ga.), No. 49 Bellarmine Prep (Tacoma, Wash.) and No. 50 Fellowship Christian (Roswell, Ga.).
