HS: Spring SIMA FAB 50, May 2
NEWS: The revolving door for the girls No. 1 ranking has spun yet again.
Battlefield (Haymarket, Va.) moves into the top spot following a couple weeks at No. 2. The timing on Battlefield's move to the top couldn't have been better. This week, the team will take on No. 9 Patriot (Nokesville, Va.) in a classic state No. 1 vs. 2 meeting between high-powered offenses. As is customary, any team that ascends to the SIMA FAB 50 No. 1 ranking will have to work hard to stay in that spot -- no cupcake schedules for any of the Top 5 programs.
Battlefield moves to the top following a loss by Naperville North (Naperville, Ill.) to fellow Top 10-ranked Barrington (Ill.) in the Naperville Invitational final. Naperville North won an earlier meeting between the teams, leaving these teams side-by-side in this week's rankings.
Overall, there was plenty of movement in the rankings, but few newcomers. Only five teams from last week's boys and five teams from last week's girls rankings fell from the SIMA FAB 50s.
BIG MOVERS: BOYS: Science Hill (Tenn.). Science Hill moves into the Top 25 this week after avenging its only defeat of the season with a 1-0 victory over Dobyns-Bennett (Tenn.). ... GIRLS: St. Joseph's Academy (St. Louis, Mo.). The Angels are the biggest mover among the ranked teams, jumping from No. 37 to No. 28 this week following a win over Nerinx Hall (Mo.).
NEWCOMERS: BOYS: No. 44 Cleveland (Tenn.), No. 47 Murray (Utah), No. 48 Brookwood (Snellville, Ga.), No. 49 Oak Mountain (Birmingham, Ala.) and No. 50 Bellarmine Prep (Tacoma, Wash.). ... GIRLS: No. 29 Myers Park (Charlotte, N.C.), No. 46 James Madison (Vienna, Va.), No. 47 Marist School (Atlanta, Ga.), No. 48 Plymouth (Canton, Mich.) and No. 49 Charlotte Latin (Charlotte, N.C.).
